AVOID FALLS

How to avoid falls.

Falling can be a serious concern, especially for older adults, but there are several ways to reduce the risk of falls. Here are some tips to help you avoid falling:

Stay active: Regular exercise can help improve your balance, coordination, and strength, which can reduce the risk of falling. Consider activities such as walking, swimming, or yoga.

Wear appropriate footwear: Choose shoes that fit well and have non-slip soles. Avoid high heels or shoes with slick soles, which can increase the risk of falls.

Remove tripping hazards: Keep your home free of clutter and remove any items that could cause you to trip, such as loose rugs or electrical cords.

Use assistive devices: If you have difficulty walking or maintaining your balance, consider using assistive devices such as a cane or walker.

Improve lighting: Ensure that your home is well-lit, especially in areas where you walk. Install night lights in hallways and bathrooms to help you see in the dark.

Manage medications: Certain medications can cause dizziness or affect your balance, which can increase the risk of falls. Talk to your doctor about your medications and potential side effects.

Get regular vision and hearing check-ups: Poor vision or hearing can affect your balance and increase the risk of falls. Regular check-ups can help identify any issues and provide appropriate treatment.
